Filth and Wisdom The comedy, which centres on a cross-dressing immigrant, a stripper and a pharmacist who share a London flat, is the Madonna’s directorial debut. The official plot synopsis describes the film as “a hilariously sexy tale of three roommates who must delve into mischievous and naughty behavior in pursuit of bigger and brighter futures.”

Filth and Wisdom actually try to experience good and evil, the paradox of life.Audaciously punching up black comedy, juggling parallel character strands and juxtaposing image. It’s only 80 minutes, and it looks far enough entertaining for an indie directorial debut.

The film stars Eugene Hutz, lead singer of gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello,Ukrainian immigrant named A.K. (Hütz) who finances his dreams of rock glory by moonlighting as a cross-dressing dominatrix ,Newcomer HOLLY WESTON plays ballet dancer turned pole-dancer and Juliette (McClure), a pharmacy assistant who dreams of going to Africa to help starving children.

The soundtrack features Gypsy band Gogol Bordello whose singer.

Filth And Wisdom hits theaters on October 17th 2008.

Apple Selling Unlocked iPhone 3G

September 29, 2008 by aeronaut

Apple Inc. has begun selling unlocked iPhones in Hong Kong that can be used with any cell phone carrier.

The move appears to depart from the company’s previous strategy of selling the popular device capable of working with 3G, or third-generation cellular networks, through specific service providers, usually with a required service contract.

“An iPhone 3G purchased at the Apple Online Store can be activated with any wireless carrier. Simply insert the SIM from your current phone into iPhone 3G and connect to iTunes 8 to complete activation,” reads the information on the Hong Kong Apple Store pages.

The iPhone 3G was previously only officially available in Hong Kong bundled with a two-year contract from tycoon Li Ka-shing’s Hutchison Telecom, on tariff plans ranging from 188 to 498 dollars a month.

Now the question is, what will likely happen if this is true is that 3rd party online retailers will order up a bunch of these and start shipping them around the world with a small premium put on them. In a matter of weeks, the world will be flooded with SIM unlocked iPhone 3Gs which are essentially sanctioned by Apple.

Top Years of Paul Newman ( Poster Story )

September 28, 2008 by zeefine

In loving memory of Paul Newman (January 26, 1925 - September 26, 2008)

On Acting
“I’m basically an irresponsible person, and I wanted to find a way of life that allowed me to continue in my irresponsibility. If you’re lucky enough to do that, there’s a kind of genius in it. If you fail, of course, it’s disastrous.I’ve been lucky, but now it looks like some kind of grand design.”

“I was terrorised by the emotional requirements of being an actor. Acting is like letting your pants down; you’re exposed”

“I was lucky to survive my first film, The Silver Chalice. God, what a dog, the worst film of the ’50s.”

“I cannot bear to look at a film that I made before 1990. Maybe 1985. There’s no sense even trying to explain it. I really just can’t watch myself. I see all the machinery at work and it just drives me nuts, so I don’t look at anything.”

“I wasn’t driven to acting by any inner compulsion. I was running away from the sporting goods business.”

“Acting is a question of absorbing other people’s personalities and adding some of your own experiences.”

“I was always a character actor. I just looked like Little Red Riding Hood.”

“To be an actor, you have to be a child.”

“To that extent that you can sustain and maintain that childlike part of your personality is probably the best part of acting.”

“Every time I get a script it’s a matter of trying to know what I could do with it. I see colors, imagery. It has to have a smell. It’s like falling in love. You can’t give a reason why.”

Paul Newman died of lung cancer on September 26, 2008 aged 83 at his long-time home in Westport, Connecticut. He was surrounded by his family and close friends, his publicist Jeff Sanderson said.

He won numerous awards, including an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Cannes Film Festival Award, and an Emmy award, along with many honorary awards.

In June 2008 it was widely reported that Newman, a former chain smoker, had been diagnosed with lung cancer and was receiving treatment at Sloan-Kettering hospital in New York City.Photographs taken of Newman in May and June showed him looking gaunt.

Newman was scheduled to make his professional directorial stage debut with the Westport Country Playhouse’s 2008 production of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, but he stepped down on May 23, 2008, citing health issues.

Newman worked with some of the greatest directors of the past half century, from Alfred Hitchcock and John Huston to Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese and the Coen brothers. His co-stars included Elizabeth Taylor, Lauren Bacall, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and, most famously, Robert Redford, his sidekick in “Butch Cassidy” and “The Sting.”

Famed for his philanthropy as well as his acting, Newman was married to Oscar-winning actress Joanne Woodward for more than 50 years, and had successful side careers as an auto racing driver and creator of a line of food products, Newman’s Own, that bore his name and face on their labels.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have teamed up for a new movie, ‘Revolutionary Road’ .It marked the reunion of eternal Titanic lovers Rose DeWitt Bukater and Jack Dawson, two stars who have both grown into mighty fine actors since their voyage on that doom fated ship.

Kathy Bates, another Titanic veteran, plays a busybody real estate agent who adds to the drama in the Wheeler household. The film is directed by Winslet’s husband, Sam Mendes.

The film, based on the Novel of the same name by Richard Yates,Revolutionary Road novel was chosen by Time as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present.Leo and Kate star as a 1950s suburban couple who struggle with bringing up their children in America and head for a new life in France, with disastrous results.

Kate winslet recently described filming love scenes with DiCaprio for the movie as “weird”.
“I just kept saying, ‘This is too… weird’. And Leo was like, ‘Oh, get over it’. And I’m going, ‘Yeah, a little reminder: You’re my best friend. He’s my husband. This is a bit weird’,” she said.
“I hadn’t realized how much my chemistry with him since Titanic would still stick. It’s great to discover we can just slip right into it, like muscle memory.”
About the film Winslet said: “We knew that if we were going to do something again, it had to be something big and emotional. I played this very clever cat-and-mouse game to get my husband and then my best friend involved.”

This film will mark the first time DiCaprio, Winslet, and Bates have worked together on a film since the 1997 blockbuster, Titanic, and the first time Winslet has worked with her husband Sam Mendes. This will also be the first time DiCaprio plays a father in one of his films.

Warhol Live taking Montreal by storm

September 24, 2008 by Ubermensch

Warhol Live, presented from September 25, 2008, to January 18, 2009 in Montreal, will explore the all-pervading and fundamental role of music and dance in the artist’s work and life, from the film music Warhol discovered in his youth to the disco scene at Studio 54, where he was one of the most famous regulars.

The exhibition will bring together some 640 works and objects, paintings, silkscreens, photographs, works on paper, installations, films, videos, album covers, as well as objects and documents from the artist’s personal archives. The museum has joined forces with Pittsburgh’s Andy Warhol Museum .

Specific interest should be the screen tests of the legendary Velvet Underground. As the Velvet’s manager from 1965 to 1967, Warhol had an unquestionable impact. They were the house band in Warhol’s multimedia show The Exploding Plastic Inevitable; he secured their first record deal with MGM; paid for the recording sessions; designed the album’s cover and suggested Nico sing with the band. The Velvet Underground & Nico appearing as #13 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Nat Finkelstein took one of the Warhol portraits in the show, a large-scale image of the artist holding up a tambourine to his face.”Warhol fed off the youth who were around him, and their taste in music was infused into Andy,” Finkelstein said.

The exhibition is built around four major themes: Tuning In, which explores Warhol’s early interest in music; Sound and Vision, which looks at his commercial interest in the music industry; Producer, which highlights Warhol as the manager of a recording and film studio, the Silver Factory; and Fame, which covers his contributions to pop culture in the 1970s and up until his death in 1987.

Collector Paul Marechal spent 12 years tracking down the 50 album covers Warhol illustrated and that are featured in the multimedia exhibition. The covers show the transformation of the marketing and sale of music through image, ranging from the personification of the artist to the conceptualization of the band, like the zippered cover for the Stones’ Sticky Fingers album which ,VH1 network named the “No.1 Greatest Album Cover” of all time.
